ROMANTIC CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD IN 12 ILLUSTRATIONS

Around the world, Christmas celebrations enable families and friends to gather, feasts to be devoured, and for love between couples to be rekindled or to blossom.
But, as festive get-togethers vary from place to place - from Polish gatherings on Christmas Eve to Orthodox events on 7 January - so do traditions linked to romance and love.
In the UK, the practice of kissing a present or future lover under the mistletoe is a common tradition, while many people around the world will ring in the New Year by puckering up.

Christmas Stars from looms, wooden sticks and thread

 59
These looms are in every house – small and not so small kids are crazy about them:) So, it’ll be easy for you to make this Christmas star.
You need five wooden sticks, thread of different colors and five looms.

Be careful when weaving the sticks (see the picture – each stick is once above another stick and once under). This will make the stars firm when ready.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Pentatonix | Christmas song and Lyrics

It's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you be of good cheer
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap-happiest season of all
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It's the most wonderful time
Yes the most wonderful time
Oh the most wonderful time
Of the year

"White Christmas" - by Home Free - video and lyrics

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas

Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.

Christmas Traditions from Portugal | "Bolo Rei" - How to make Portuguese King Cake | Video recipe

Comforting and homey but at the same time exotic enough to make this year’s holiday meal just a little more special, the Bolo Rei, Portuguese King Cake, is a delicious mix of hearty white dough, crunchy nuts and raisins and sweet crystallized fruit.

This tasty seasonal treat is traditionally served from Christmas Day on December 25th until the Day of the Kings, or Dia de Reis, on January 6th. Bolo Rei’s perfectly round shape is itself a reference to the biblical Three Kings, the three wise men from the East who traveled by the legendary light of the Star of Bethlehem to the birthplace of Jesus Christ. With its meaningful history, rich taste and mouth-watering aroma, the Bolo Rei, Portuguese King Cake, makes the perfect addition to any holiday meal.

Meaning of "bad blood"

Anger or hostility between persons or groups, as in "There's been bad bloodbetween the two families for years". This term is based on the old association with blood and emotion, particularly anger.

Prince Charles' 70th birthday

Being heir-to-the-throne and therefore a pretty big deal, the royal family wasn't going to let a landmark celebration like that slip on by, so Queen Elizabeth hosted a party for her eldest son at Buckingham Palace.
