Where Children Sleep

"Where Children Sleep- stories of diverse children around the world, told through portraits and pictures of their bedrooms. When Fabrica asked me to come up with an idea for engaging with children's rights, I found myself thinking about my bedroom: how significant it was during my childhood, and how it reflected what I had and who I was. It occurred to me that a way to address some of the complex situations and social issues affecting children would be to look at the bedrooms of children in all kinds of different circumstances. From the start, I didn't want it just to be about 'needy children' in the developing world, but rather something more inclusive, about children from all types of situations. It seemed to make sense to photograph the children themselves, too, but separately from their bedrooms, using a neutral background. My thinking was that the bedroom pictures would be inscribed with the children's material and cultural circumstances ' the details that inevitably mark people apart from each other ' while the children themselves would appear in the set of portraits as individuals, as equals ' just as children. This selection of diptych's from 56 in the book (Chris Boot November 2010). The book is written and presented for an audience of 9-13 year olds ' intended to interest and engage children in the details of the lives of other children around the world, and the social issues affecting them, while also being a serious photographic essay for an adult audience."

What is wisdom?

A short video in which well-known people from a wide range of fields talk about what wisdom means to them.

Wisdom to me isn't an answer anyway. Wisdom is a question. It's like your mother saying, "Where have you been to this time of night?" The question was the answer; she didn't want you to tell her.

Wisdom is about experience which hopefully would include risk taking and being somewhat adventurous.

It is more blessed to give than to receive because in giving, although it doesn't seem so, you receive.

You don't stop doing things because you get old.You get old because you stop doing things.

I get sillier as I get older. So I don't know what wisdom means.

It's awfully sad, that with our clever brain, capable of taking us to the moon, that we seem to have lost wisdom. And that is the wisdom of the indigenous people, who would make a major decision based on "How will this decision affect our people 7 generations ahead?"

It's not about brains. It's not about the accumulation of knowledge. It's about being decent.

Nobody can teach me who I am. You can describe parts of me, but who I am, and what I need;these are things I have to find out myself.

It's a play, isn't it? You know you've got to get through the third act. And you've got to finish as strong as you began. And if that's the proposition then... get to work.

I think the happiest way of life is to be developing or making things.

Your best work is your expression of yourself. Now you may not be the greatest at it,but when you do it, you're the only expert.

You can't get to wonderful without passing through alright. You can't skip "not being able to function" all the way over to "running the wholeshow".

And if you happen to have talent, then you take that technique somewhere with that talent, and you create new things. There is no way that we can escape ourselves. If I give you a recipe and I give 5 different people a recipe I will have 5 different dish on the table.

One of the reasons I haven't slipped into some sort of retirement is I always feel like I'm learning something new, all the time.

I always thought that inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you're not gonna make an awful lot of work.

I don’t have to work, but I like to work. Only if you like to work can you do good things.

If you're ever going to create a peaceful world, you're going to have to ask, "What is it possible for the other fellow to do?" If you believe in the law, it applies to everyone.

Once you say it doesn't apply to one person, or to a group of people, you're really saying, "Well, I don't believe the rule of law".

When you look at conflict, no matter where it exists, it's about difference; difference of race, religion, of nationality. The answer to difference is to respect it, not to fight about it.

If a sovereign does not take care of his or he rpeople then the international community has a responsibility to protect.

You can't control people by fear because the ultimate, ultimate essence is constantly craving dignity. That the human dignity has a need for dignity, just like.... like water, like air.

You don't have to be rich, and you don't have to bean army. If you find yourself in a situation that needs to be changed, if you're willing to offer your life for it, you might actually get something done.

The ways of peace are easier than we can imagine provided that we are able to invent, we can invent our future.

I was in the Air Force a while, and they have what they call "policing the area". And that's where you looked around, if anything was wrong. You took care of your own area. If everyone just takes care of their own area then we won't have any problems.

It's not just policing your own area, because tha tcan turn into its own ego trip "Look at me! I'm doing something for the environment!" Rather than saying it's something I have to do, because it's necessary.

You don't have to be a United States Senator tomake a difference. Nurses make a difference.Policemen make a difference. People who work with special needs children make a difference.

I don't know if political change... can affect that much. The change has to be in the heart.

Love something. I think we've got to learn to love something deeply.I think it's love. It sounds sentimental as hell, but I really think it is.

I think that love is the most important thing.

Life is not perfect. It never will be. You just have to make the very best of it. And you have to open your heart to what the world can show you. And sometimes it’s terrifying, and sometimes it’s incredibly beautiful. And I'll take both, thanks.

Prince William's 30th birthday

Prince William has marked his thirtieth birthday. And he has a lot to celebrate. Among his list of achievements is being the first future British monarch to attend Eton College, an exclusive private school near London. And with an honours degree from St Andrew's University, he's also the most academically accomplished British royal. Born William Arthur Philip Louis on June 21st, 1982, he is the first child of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Over the years, he's attracted intense media attention, not least when at the age of 15 his famous mother died in a car accident in Paris. In 2006, he graduated from Sandhurst military academy and spent two years training for his future role as head of the armed forces. And four years later, he proposed to long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton, revealing his sense of humor when talking to the press about the couple's engagement. Reporter: "Prince William, why did it take you so long to propose?" PRINCE WILLIAM: "I don't remember how many years it has been, forget the memory, I also didn't realise it was a race otherwise I probably would have been a lot quicker." REPORTER: The wedding breathed new life into the monarchy, attracting a worldwide audience of 2 billion people. Prince William has piloted helicopters, raced canoes in Canada and mingled with celebrities in California. And the next 30 years may well see him ascend the British throne. Tara Cleary, Reuters.

What wood you choose?

All the timber and wood products we buy -- from furniture to flooring to paper -- started life in a forest somewhere.
Trees were cut down, processed and sold to you as a door, a kitchen worktop or maybe a book.
But not all wood comes from well-managed forests.
So how can you be sure you're choosing the right wood -- wood that's sustainably produced without causing harm to people or wildlife?
Watch this short film to find out...

London Olympics 2012 - Olympic Song - Flame

Yocha noh gweh yocha, yocha noh gweh yocha, yocha noh gweh yocha
Yocha yocha

Light the flame, light the flame, light the flame
All the love that you get give the same
Leave behind all the grief
You can overcome the pain
And light the flame

You can be swifter, you can aim further
Yes, you can reach higher than before
You can be stronger, you can act wiser
Oh yes, you can achieve a better score

Now you've come of age
Don't allow fear in anymore
Today has become Your Day
The day that you were born to live
The day that you were born to give
A little bit more, give a little bit more

Catch the flame, catch the flame, catch the flame
All the love that you get give the same
Leave behind all the grief
You can overcome the pain

Pass the flame, pass the flame, pass the flame
All the love that you get give the same
Leave behind all the grief
You can overcome the pain

And free the flame
Free the flame

Be the flame (Yocha noh gweh yocha, yocha noh gweh yocha)
Be the flame (Yocha noh gweh yocha, yocha yocha)
Free the flame

"Karaoke Breathalyzer" - to increase awareness about drunk driving

Nice stunt in Brazil by Ogilvy. They made the “Karaoke Breathalyzer” and used it in Bar Aurora & Boteco Ferraz.
To increase awareness about drunk driving, they created the world’s first microphone breathalyzer and invited people to sing karaoke.
Once up on stage, with their guard down, they took them by surprise.
At the end of each song their alcohol blood level was shown, not the karaoke score.

The Diamond Jubilee Carriage Procession - 5th June 2012

The Queen spends her Jubilee Tuesday with a service at St Paul's, lunch at Westminster, and a parade to Buckingham Palace.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Message, 5th June 2012

The events that I have attended to mark my Diamond Jubilee have been a humbling experience. It has touched me deeply to see so many thousands of families, neighbors and friends celebrating together in such a happy atmosphere. But Prince Philip and I want to take this opportunity to offer our special thanks and appreciation to all those who have had a hand in organizing these Jubilee celebrations. It has been a massive challenge, and I am sure that everyone who has enjoyed these festive occasions realizes how much work has been involved. I hope that memories of all this year's happy events will brighten our lives for many years to come. I will continue to treasure and draw inspiration from the countless kindnesses shown to me in this country and throughout the Commonwealth. Thank you all.

The Queens Diamond Jubilee Celebrations - The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant

At high water in the afternoon of Sunday 3 June 2012, up to a thousand boats muster on the River Thames for Her Majesty The Queen to lead the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. It was one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river. Rowed boats and working boats and pleasure vessels of all shapes and sizes were beautifully dressed with streamers and Union Jacks, their crews and passengers turned out in their finest rigs. The armed forces, fire, police, rescue and other services were all afloat and there were an exuberance of historic boats, wooden launches, steam vessels and other boats of note.
